Dear Simon;
Tonight it will be time to put out your shoes for St Nicholas! To prepare for this event, I have a little blog assignment for you. (That way other people can learn about this European tradition, too!)
Tonight it will be time to put out your shoes for St Nicholas! To prepare for this event, I have a little blog assignment for you. (That way other people can learn about this European tradition, too!)
First... What do you already know about st Nicholas Day? Jot down a few notes below (can be point form):
Now, read these two articles online:
http://www.ukgermanconnection.org/kids-nikolaus
http://german.lifetips.com//faq/36211/0/what-do-people-do-on-nikolaustag/index.html
As you read, please consider the following, and respond below:
1. Something I already knew about St Nicholas Day...
Santa Claus and ST Nick are based on the same person.
2. Something that surprised me
He dropped three lumps of gold down a poor family's chimney and the three pieces of gold fell in to three shoes so that's why people put out shoes on ST Nick's day!
3. Questions I still have about this holiday tradition...
How would he get the three lumps of gold?
Once you have completed this assignment, we'll share our responses, then publish these blog posts so others can learn and celebrate along with us! Okay
Love,
Mommy :)
