Poem about leaving Argentina

Argentina was really good and I did all that I could,
but now it's time to take a break from all that nasty Argentinian steak,

Argentina  was really great but I probably over ate,
but how could I not do this, with the ice cream here not being out of date,

I want to stay but if I were not with my dad,
we would both be really mad,

So I have decided I had had enough,
partly because if I stayed, I would be in hand cuffs,
for stealing all that delicious helados (ice cream stuff).

Pros or Cons When it Comes to the End

Coming home to Canada will not be all good or bad. There will be some benefits and some disadvantages to it.

Pros

One good thing about coming home to Canada will be that I get to see my Dad for real, rather than just on a screen (we have been skyping our Dad). I am extremely excited to see him because he is my own Dad and I don't think he or I could live without seeing each other.

Another good thing about coming home will be that I get to see my friends. I am very lonely sometimes because I only have Alex, my Mom and Tats to accompany me here. That's why I'm looking forward to seeing them.

I know I have talked a lot about missing people but that's because the things that will be the best for me are seeing the people I love or like to play with.

Cons

One disadvantage about going home will be that when I want ice cream, I will have to have the garbage North American kind instead of the yummy Argentinian kind. And this is a MASSIVE problem!

Another bad thing will be that I'll have to stand the freezing temperatures of Canada. And I mean FREEZING! Here in Buenos Aires, especially in January, it was really, really HOT, and I could wear shorts most of the time.

A third downside to leaving Argentina is that we can't wake up at 9 - o - clock in the morning anymore because we'll have to be at school at 8:45 every morning, which means that we have to wake up early and rush. Some things I liked about our schedule this year were that we only had half a day of school, and we just seemed to have more free time, especially in the mornings. Often we chatted so much at breakfast that before we realized what time it was, it was already 10 a.m.!

Although there will be some cons about coming home, like I said, "I need a break of all that nasty Argentinian steak".

Arts Month is Over

5/6/2014

This past Month has done a lot of things. For example it has changed me and has taught me.

Programming with Scratch
One of the classes I took aka (things i learned) was programming using a website called Scratch. Just before you think I'm a mastermind with Scratch I would like to inform you that I am pretty new with it.

One of the things I learned from using Scratch was that it takes a long time to make a movie, TV show or video game because technology has not gone so far yet. So we still have to put some hand work into it.

The Art Activities
We did three main art activities witch were Piano, Singing and Drama. We learned something from every one of these activities. From Piano we learned how a basic instrument works and learning that opened a lot into our life. For example we can entertain by playing songs and we can read music. From Singing we learned how breathing is really helpful for basically anything like when you need to com down or when you are saying a big speech. From Drama we learned about how movies and plays work.

Wednesday Project Day
On Wednesday we had a free day to work on projects like blog post and learning french. I am glad we had this day to just kind of chill and work on projects because you feel like you have time, where as when you are working on a project after school you feel tense about not having enough time.

Feelings
At first, I didn't like that we were going to have this month because of how my mom explained it to me. I did not get what she was saying. But now when I am looking back at this month I realized that it was pretty fun. Something that bothered me this month was that we had piano three times a week. I did not like this because I did not feel like we had our art activities for equal amounts of time. But the only reason had to have piano three times a week was because at the beginning of our arts month we had no keyboard to practice on.

Now our arts month is over and it is almost time to go back to Canada.

What would we do without books

5/1/2014

We have read a lot of books this past year in Argentina and we have learned a lot from each book. To keep track of what we learned, we posted pictures of the books on a big piece of card board. Beside each picture we put a sticky note that said what we agreed was the lesson in the book.

Some of the lessons were similar to each other like the ones from Secret Signs and Viola Desmond won't be Budged. The over all lesson for those two books was "doing the right thing takes courage sometimes".

There were also some books that had unique lessons like Have I Got Book For You where the lesson was "think before you buy".

Although I like all the other books we read very much, my personal favorite was Encounter because it's the only book I ever read that tells the story of how the First Nations in South America might have felt when people from Spain and Portugal came to South America.

Choice Works Works for Me

Picturewaiting w/ timer
Choice Works is an app that can help you be organized. Using Choice Works, you can make "to-do" lists and keep track of ideas and tasks you want to complete.  You can also have a reminder tool with a timer to help you remember what to do when you are waiting.

PictureSunday To Do List
For example, I used Choice Works the other day to set up a list of what I wanted to get done on Sunday afternoon.  After you finish each task, you can slide the image over to the "complete" column, and a green check mark appears and a voice says "all done!"

You can also use this app to make a list of ideas for what to do when you feel frustrated or scared.  I used it to create a list for myself.

When making a list, you can choose pictures and labels from the Choice Works menu, or you have the option to make a customized picture.  I used a photo of a flower I found on the Internet to make a customized cover page image for my "When I'm Scared" menu (see screen shot to the left).

In my opinion, this app is useful for people of all ages, to help them stay on track with the things they need to do.

Simon's Top 3 Ice Cream Places

If you live in Palermo or Collegiales and love ice cream, you might want to check out these cool places:
Picture
To rank these helado shops, I considered price, taste, unique flavours, organization of flavours and how easy it was to get to.  Here is my list:

3. Nicolo on Scalabrini Ortiz
Nicolo is home to the cheapest ice cream in the city. You can buy a quarter kilo for eighteen pesos. That in American dollars is one dollar and eighty cents.

2. Daniel on Luis Maria Campos
Daniel is pretty good too although not as cheap as Nicolo. This ice cream place has a great deal. The deal is you get a kilo of ice cream for almost half off if you get these five flavors: Chocolate, Vanilla, Limon, Dulce de Leche and some fruity flavor.

1. Farrici at Conesa and Frederico La Crox
This ice cream place stands far beyond the rest having the creamiest ice cream I ever tasted. My favorite flavor is their chocolate because to me it's outstanding. The prices are not as good as good as Nicolo, but cheaper than Daniel.  Price and taste make this my number one choice!

What are you waiting for? Go get your ice cream!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Plague

The Plague is a name for a group of deadly illnesses that came and went between in the 500s and the 1700s.
Picturetaken from Wikipedia
The Black Plague
The Black Plague was the deadliest Plague of all that lasted 1347 to 1350. It was a combination of three Plagues known as the bubonic, septicemic and pneumonic plagues. When you got the bubonic plague you started getting bubbles under your armpits. If the bubbles popped in time, you would survive the illness and if the bubbles didn't pop you would die. You got the septicemic plague when bacteria got into your bloodstream. People who felt normal died within hours. You got the pneumonic plague by breathing the air that a person who already had the pneumonic plague exhaled. The pneumonic plague was the deadliest plague because it was so contagious.

Medieval Thoughts About The Plague
Most people in the middle ages thought that it was a disease caused by dirty air. Others thought that it was a punishment from god. Doctors didn't understand germs and bacteria but they did know that the plague was contagious so, they recommended that people who were not sick yet should not be with other people that much.

The Plague was a scary group of diseases so we should be thankful that it is very rare today

Pros and Cons About Home Schooling in Argentina!

3/31/2014

Being home schooled in Argentina this year had some benefits and disadvantages.

One of the things I liked about being home schooled was the flexibility.  For example, we could take it easy in the mornings, without having to rush to school.  We could also start our school day whenever we wanted to.  Another good thing is that if we were working on something, and the timer went off but we wanted to keep working on the activity, then we could just keep working.

I also feel like I got to know my family a bit more, because we were always spending time together, being home schooled by my mom, with Alex.  I liked this.

Another thing I liked was actually learning something new, because at school in Canada, I felt like I got taught the same stuff every year.  Also, once I learned something and understood it, I had to keep learning it because other kids in my class still didn't understand.  But this year it's different because there are only two of us, and Alex and I are pretty much around the same level, so when we're done with something, we can actually move on to the next topic.  We don't feel like we're learning the same things over and over again.

Some things I didn't like about being home schooled were that I didn't know what was going on at my school back in Canada. I felt like I was missing out on all the news!  I also missed my friends from school a lot.   Skyping with some of my friends and reading their blog comments helped a little bit, but it's not the same.

Overall, home schooling in Argentina this year was fun, and I liked it a lot.  But there were also some disadvantages.  It's hard to decide if those disadvantages outweigh the benefits.

P.S.  I had lots of ideas about this topic, but I'm a bit of a lazy writer -- Mom helped me organize my thinking and get it all down on paper!
