I liked this book because it took place in Canada. Normally in stories where a black person is treated unfairly the story takes place in the USA, but this story shows you that many Canadians were racist too.
Today in class we read a book called Viola Desmond won't be Budged and it's about a black woman who stands up for her rights when an usher in a movie theater tells her she has to sit at the back of the theater. I liked this book because it took place in Canada. Normally in stories where a black person is treated unfairly the story takes place in the USA, but this story shows you that many Canadians were racist too. Another reason I liked this story is because in page 29 ( when Viola is fighting a decision that a judge made for her ) there are some white people as well as black people fighting the judge with Viola too. This shows not all white people were racist. Because of these two reasons this is probably one of my most favorite black history stories.

This sounds like a really good book, Simon. I heard about this story but didn't realize it happened in Canada. It's always nice to read books about Canada! Do you think we still have racism in Canada today?

Well I think there is still racism everywhere today because nobody can let go of the fact that they at one point had more power than most other people in the world.

That is to bad that most people don't have that skill. The world would be a different place if lots of people did.
