The memiors of a young servant-caste girl growing up in a monsoon- and war-ridden India has been difficult to put down. The bags under my eyes are keepsakes from long nights enmeshed in the boarding schools, brothels and political rallies of Culcutta and the surrounding areas.
The best (worst?) part of this book is that it is nearly 500 pages long; you don't have to part ways with the powerful protagonist for many, many nights!
